The London 2012 Olympic and the Paralympic Games may have come to an end but the legacy lives on.
Following on from the success of Team GB and especially our bronze medal women’s hockey team it is now up to clubs like ours to ensure that the spirit of the Games lives on and that those who have been inspired by London 2012 have the opportunity to ‘get back to’ or ‘get into’ hockey.
Following on from the highly successful 2012 Olympics Sport England has created funding opportunities for clubs to promote, deliver and run sporting programs for the young people of Great Britain.
Nelvets has successfully bid for funding from the Sportivate fund to set up two blocks of eight weeks of Rush Hockey for 16 to 25 year olds.
The first of the eight week sessions will take place every Monday evening from 6 - 7pm. commencing on Monday 22nd April with registration from 5.45pm. and will continue every week for eight weeks.
The Sportivate program is open to anyone who lives within North East Lincolnshire who is within the age range but parents are encouraged to join in with their children.
A hockey stick, valued at £15.00, will be awarded to everyone who (within the age group) completes eight weeks along with a completer’s certificate. Those who complete six weeks will be awarded with a certificate of attendance.
Session fees will be £2 per person. (no fee for spectators)
This initiative is being supported The Humber Sports Partnership, England Hockey and encouraged by North East Lincolnshire Sports Development.
